Renewable Sulfur Based Polymers And Their Growing Popularity In The Market

Every market is trying to pay their part to help to declutter the environment. Amidst this their interest in utilizing waste material to reduce the environmental load is growing. There are a number of approaches different industries are using to achieve their green goals. Including green chemistry is one of such noble methods to help the environment.

When it comes to the rubber industry, Sulfur based polymers have grabbed the attention of the market. By utilizing unique renewable materials (elemental sulfur) with a variety of monomers is helping the rubber industry to achieve their green goals.

Insoluble sulfur is one of the main components used inside a rubber manufacturing plant. Used as a vulcanizing agent sulfur is what helps rubber industries to turn rubber into more durable items that make our daily lives easier.

Collecting large amounts of elemental sulfur, which is a waste (by-product) produced in gas and refineries, are turned into sulfur based polymers. Using the new copolymerization method known as “Inverse vulcanisation,” the elemental sulfur can be turned into a stable sulfur based polymer.

This new class of sulfur copolymers possess great characteristics that can be used for the environmental good and as renewable energy applications. And not just petrol based monomers but other renewable monomers and vegetable oils are used to create the renewable sulfur based polymers.
