What Is Sulfur Polymer?

Synthetic polymers are one of the most widely manufactured materials in the world. The reason for this is an increasing need to develop new polymers that are more eco-friendly to our environment.

As sulfur is a by-product of petroleum it is always seen as the alternative to carbon for the production of polymers. But it is hard to make a stable sulfur polymer on its own.

However, in the presence of high temperature and prolonged reaction time (known as inverse vulcanization), sulfur reacts with the organic cross linking molecules for stable sulfur polymers that prevent them from decomposing.

With the help of this process, it is possible to make sulfur polymers that can be later used by the different industries to make more stable plastic products that can be employed to better our daily lives.
